Supported Accommodation

Sunningdale is an OFSTED registered provison for 16-21 year olds.

We support young people in respect of Independence before moving on to the next stage of their young adult life. Support is delivered 24 hours a day by highly trained staff

We work closely with local authorities for children leaving care in Middlesbrough, Stockton on Tees, Redcar and Hartlepool in the North East of England and across the UK, supporting young people aged 16 +

Our primary focus areas are accommodation and support for children leaving care.

Having often experienced some trauma, transitioning from full-time care to independent living can be daunting, so support at this stage is crucial for such vulnerable individuals.

Many studies have unfortunately proven that children leaving care have a much higher risk of developing depression, abusing drugs or becoming homeless.

Children in care often appear to grow up fast, especially when forced to due to their circumstances. Of course, they may act like an adult at the age of 17, but they still need support and guidance, the same as any child of this age.

Objectives

  • To provide a homely environment for each young person, which is positive, helpful, and intended to promote social acceptance and friendship.
  • To ensure that each young person has a personal education/employment plan which addresses their individual needs and provides positive educational opportunities, made to maximise their learning potential and encouraging them to want to achieve.
  • Equality and diversity principles are at the heart of our whole approach. Oppressive actions and/or attitudes will be challenged appropriately through education, through positive challenging of belief systems. We use a restorative practice approach as an aid to resolve interpersonal disputes and differences.
  • To ensure that each young person has a support plan with clear outcomes; this will include an on-going assessment of risk factors.
To ensure that each young person has a key worker who is responsible for planning, co-ordinating, monitoring and evaluating support plans and risk assessments. Support plans and risk assessments will be devised alongside the young person and in consultation with other professionals who are involved in the young person’s life.
  • To ensure that young person resident at Sunningdale has a personal Key Worker who is responsible for overseeing their support and progress.
  • To ensure that each young person’s well-being and health needs are properly identified, met, and monitored.
  • To ensure young people are supported and encouraged to meet and promote their own health needs.
  • To encourage young people to engage in positive community-based activities.
  • To enable young people to grow and develop through clearly defined boundaries and house rules.
