Assessment and Support for Children and Families

Our Residential Family Assessment Centre is based in Sunderland. We have close links with Local Authorities in Newcastle, Sunderland, North and South Tyneside, Gateshead, County Durham,  Northumberland in the North East of England and across the UK.

Our Aims and Objectives:

  • We focus on positive outcomes, a respect for human rights and for the values of the families themselves. We believe where possible, children are best cared for in their own families.
  • We enable and empower parents to be fully invested in both the short and long-term plans of support for them and their child’s future.
  • We provide families with a nurturing environment in which parents are supported practically and emotionally to gain confidence and develop their skills in caring for their own children, allowing them to return to their own family environment safely.
  • We provide an environment which is free from discrimination in any form, regardless of race, culture, social status, religion, disability, age or sexuality.
  • Families are consulted and are fully involved in all aspects of their plan, assessment, and support. For example, assessment recordings are shared with families and families are involved in drawing up their Family Placement Plan for their stay at the Woodstone.
  • Families are encouraged to treat the flat they will reside in as their home for the period they are resident at Woodstone using the facilities available to them as they choose.
  • We encourage families to engage in positive community-based activities to encourage social inclusion.
  • We always remember that the protection of the child has our paramount focus.
